All Hands on Deck Maritime Training - Night Navigation Training

Night Navigation Course

Owning a boat is great fun but you want to be able to use as much as possible - DAY and NIGHT. Many people, however, are reluctant to take their boat out at night due to either not having the experience or confidence of being out on the water at night. Night time navigation is certainly a lot different from the day but there are some incredible boating opportunities such as getting out on the bays, lake and rivers for overnight camping adventures, nighttime fishing expeditions or just finding a great anchorage under the stars to enjoy a family bbq.

Whatever your interest you need to make sure night time boating is safe and fun for you, your family and friends.

Our Night Navigation Course is specifically designed to provide you with the knowledge and experience to be out on the water at night and to provide you with 'hands on' experience to build your confidence for night navigation.

The course is run over 4-5 hours and to ensure quality of training is limited to 8 persons.
The course will allow you to:

  • Be able to identify other vessels at night (Sail, Power, Fishing, Dredging, Towing etc)
  • Be able to identify risk of collision situations
  • Be able to take early and clear action to avoid a collision
  • Identify Lateral Marks and on which side to pass when entering and departing a port
  • Identify Cardinal Marks and where the deeper/safer water lies and where the danger is situated
  • Understand situational awareness for night time operations
  • Be aware of the dangers of the back scatter of shore lights
  • Develop confidence and skills in operating and navigating a vessel at night
  • Understand the importance and implementation of a Pilotage Plan

Courses are run monthly and course dates can be found by clicking here
