All Hands on Deck Maritime Training is a
NSW Maritime 'Accredited Provider'

and VETAB Accredited RTO Training Provider # 90927
(NSW Vocational Education & Training Accreditation Board)


This course is officially known and nationally recognised as:
Certificate 1 in Transport & Distribution
(Maritime Operations)(TDM10107)

In the workplace Deck Hand training is more commonly known as a
General Purpose Hand Course
and designed to meet the training requirements
for entry level into the Maritime Industry.

The TOTAL costs to complete the General Purpose Hand course is $890.00. This cost is considerably lower that the TAFE OTEN fee and we are able to do this by utilising online training and our own training vessel.

Payment to complete the course is made in 2 stages:

STAGE 1 - Initial Enrolment Payment: $395.00 inclusive of GST.
On receipt of the initial enrolment our Head Trainer will contact you and provide you with all training manuals and study notes, a training study plan and access to our online assessment material. He will also maintain regular contact to assist you in your studies. This stage can be undertaken in you own time and at your own pace. There is no need to attend any class sessions.

STAGE 2 - Final Enrolment Payment: $495.00 inclusive of GST
When you have completed Stage 1 you can book in for the final stage. Stage 2 bookings and payment must be made at least 2 weeks prior to the commencement of the 3 day practical session which is conducted on board our training vessel. During Stage 2 you will put into practice the following skills:

  • Mooring and Berthing the Vessel
  • Anchoring the Vessel
  • Man Overboard and Fire Drills
  • Helmsman Duties
  • On Board Maritime Safety
  • Practical Survival at Sea

Syllabus Incorporates the following Units of Competency:
Survive at sea in the event of vessel abandonment

Assist in safe operations and emergency procedures on a coastal vessel

Contribute to communication and teamwork on a coastal vessel

Contents of each Unit of Competency include:
  • Practice survival techniques
  • Operate lifesaving and survival equipment
  • Participate in abandon vessel drills

  • Apply basic seamanship skills applicable to a deckhand
  • Assist in the use of basic firefighting equipment available on a coastal vessel

Contents of each Unit of Competency include:
  • Perform immediate lifesaving first aid pending the arrival of medical assistance
  • Recognise the symptoms and signs of acute illness and/or injury and take appropriate action
  • Manage wounds and bleeding
  • Manage burns
  • Manage bone, joint and muscle injuries
  • Adopt 1st aid procedures for remote situations
